Bishop Douglas Kessler’s office has announced the dates for the spring diocesan retreat. The retreat will be held at Saint Michael’s Cathedral Church in San Clemente, California 92672. The first meeting will begin with the Evening Office of Prayer on April 8th and the retreat will conclude with Eucharist on Saturday morning, April 10th, 2010.

All clergy in the Diocese of the West are to attend. Please contact Fr. David Anderson, the Archdeacon, if you need to request to be excused. You can click on the “Contact Us” menu tab above for contact info and a map to St. Michael’s Cathedral.

Saint Michael’s Church held two catechism courses in 2009, once prior to Easter and the other before the Feast of Saint Michael’s. The six week course is required for those desiring to be confirmed. Until the CEC catechism working group completes its work, the outline we use for our catechism is the Apostles Creed.

Additionally, Bishop Kessler has stressed the importance of being a people of the Word. Some have called it the evangelical aspect, which with the charismatic and sacramental distinctive’s form the three streams that converge in the CEC. As a demonstration of his commitment to the parish knowing Christ through His Word, Bishop Kessler presented Bibles to those confirmed at the cathedral in 2009. The presentation was made on the first Sunday of Advent.

Receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in 2009 and presented Bibles blessed by Bishop Kessler are: Joshua Anderson, Aiden Johnson, Zach Harless, Steven Powers, Aaron Powers, Mary Powell, and Jacob Shrock. All were excited to receive the Bibles as we start the new year.
